pruning timetable trees and shrubs.

Pruning at regular intervals can help maintain the shape and structure of trees and shrubs. Pruning helps keep plants healthy through controlling growth, removing dead or damaged branches and promoting fruiting for some species. With established trees and shrubs it is important to understand their natural habit as this will determine how they should be pruned.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has divided trees and shrubs into nine pruning groups, which indicates when pruning should take place to ensure maximum benefits. All plans provided have a pruning group listed next to the plant suggestion. this is so you can access advice here or on the RHS website.

A garden is not something that just appears; it takes time and patience to create. To give your plants the best start, make sure you have prepared the soil with good fertility levels, sufficient moisture and any other treatments needed for what type of plant you are growing. Don't be dismayed if there isn't much growth in year one – as long as healthy foliage appears this usually indicates a strong root system which will encourage greater success further down the line!
